Ray Charmak qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1970 and by 1981 he was Senior Partner of UHY Hacker Young, Brighton.
After retiring from accountancy in 1995, Ray founded and incorporated River Oaks Homes Ltd to build its first development Ore Place in Hastings, an exclusive development of 22 luxury family homes adjoining St Helens Parkland, setting the benchmark for future developments built by River Oaks Homes.
Ray’s strong passion for sailing took him to some interesting and exotic places where not only did he invest in land and property, but he also closely supported the charity ‘Naru’ in Guatemala. After living on and off his yacht for eight years he returned to the UK full-time to setup Southdowns Park Lewes, River Oaks Homes’ largest developments to date.
Passionate about addressing the accommodation shortage in Brighton, Ray co-founded the ‘Equal Footings’ charity. The charity is focused on creating housing provisions for the young and homeless, providing mentoring, career guidance and employment opportunities through a wide range of local business partners.
